Eating for two

So it appears that I am eating for two :)

One of the great things about an anonymous blog is that although I have to keep the whole pregnancy thing relatively hush hush for the next 5 weeks or so - I can talk about it here - hooray. Sometimes I feel I am going to burst with the news.

While it is great news, I do have to admit that being pregnant and being a foodie are not very compatible - no raw or undercooked meats (sorry there is no way I am having a well done steak, so that takes steak off the menu - and sushi - boo hoo); no more liver, so no more guiltily consumed foie gras (my moral compass is thanking me for that one); no more raw or runny eggs (no good mayonnaise, I even avoided chocolate fondant the other night); no more mouldy cheese (Oh - this is killing me!) and no alcohol.

Of course it is only nine months and the sacrifices are totally worth it - but certainly there is a price to pay. And don't even get me started on the nausea or the food cravings - avocado and marmite on toast anyone?

CONGRATULATIONS! So pleased to hear your news and I wish you well in your pregnancy.

How times have changed! I ate everything I wanted to, drank and smoked too all the way through and my daughter is still very much alive!

Thanks ToffeeApple!
It is funny how much things have changed (or even the cross-cultural differences) - I am sure that French women continue to eat cheese and Japanese women continue to eat sushi - but I guess as a first time mum-to-be I am a bit wary and will just follow what the doctors recommend... oh the sacrifices

I do understand you concerns and you must, of course, be true to yourself and your child. If I were in your position now, (I'm 61 -Shh!)I would do the same as you. We just didn't know as much then. No-one told me to give up anything - can you imagine? My doctor now keeps asking me if I have cut down from my three cigarettes a day. I always lie, of course.

Oh, I am so excited for you! It is the most wonderful thing that a woman can have happen to her. Please keep me informed of how you are doing; you could e-mail me if you want to keep it totally private.

Big Hugs my dear!

Thanks so much for that ToffeeApple. It would be nice to have someone to chat to.
It is sometimes hard keeping things quiet out here in the real world - Of course I have told a few people - including my mother in Australia - she is incredibly excited - first grandchild and everything.

I'm not surprised that your Mother is excited, I should be too. Will you be able to see your Mother before the birth?

Do e-mail me (I believe you can access my address from my profile since you are a blog owner) if you feel you want to.

Yes - mum and dad are coming to visit in May - but hopefully I will get a quick trip home at the end of March as well.
I also imagine that mum will be on the next plane out after the birth :)
